Marathon High Speed Doors Solve Security Issues At Government Bank Facility.

GOVERNMENT BANK FACILITY
CHALLENGE
The objectives for replacing the existing, steel sectional doors at this major government bank facility were twofold:
- High maintenance costs.
- Extreme security needs.
The existing side-by-side, standard sectional doors were used to secure the employee parking area. Maintenance costs were high as a direct result of cycle time demand on the doors. Demand was heaviest during the workweek, especially in the morning and later in the afternoon, as employees reported to and left the facility. Every vehicle entering and exiting the area cycled the doors. The cycle time was estimated at between 60 and 100 cycles per hour. This type of cycle time demand took its toll on the door components including springs, wheels, and operators.
Security is of paramount importance at this bank. Employees are provided secure parking to protect both themselves and the bank itself. A magnetic card reader system, which trips the doors, is interlocked into the overall bank security system. Unauthorized individuals or vehicles are not allowed access. A bulletproof guard station is also situated between two of the doors for added security.
SOLUTION
Operationally, the current doors were considered too slow, compounding security concerns.
High-speed Marathon Hydrarol (M-109D) direct drive powered doors were chosen to replace those standard sectional doors.
The Hydrarol doors travel at 20 inches per second, which is 3 to 4 times faster than the doors that were replaced. This performance, powered by a 3 hp electric operator. This operator addressed the major security need for this bank – which was increasing the opening and closing speed of the doors.
(ASI Technologies also has a hydraulic powered model that cycles at 42 inches/second). Energy savings have also been realized, due to the speed and insulating qualities of the doors.
The bank also specified that it would continue to utilize the existing magnetic card system. This required ASI Technologies to understand the needs of the security system mechanisms. A custom-designed box was the result.
The doors have provided continuous trouble-free operation. Since the Hydrarol doors have been installed, maintenance costs have been significantly reduced.
